“In the long run, your human capital is your main base of competition. Your leading indicator of where you’re going to be in 20 years from now is how well you’re doing in your Education system”.
– Bill Gates
The wise makes every moment count. The average man is very concerned about making ends meet through jobs and businesses. Beyond these, the most salient investment platform is Human capital without which others can’t stand tangibly.
Human capital is the skills, knowledge, and experience possessed by an individual or population, viewed in terms of their value or cost to an organization or country.
Every conglomerate that has ever graced this earth stood upon the vision, ideas and knowledge of individuals.
Most often than not, business owners are so keen to spend thousands of dollars trying to get businesses to work. But on the contrast, the businesses are silently praying for their owners to invest thousands of dollars on people to work.
All business operations can be reduced to the 3 P’s: Product, People and Process. Tons of great products and services are littered in the market, yet their companies aren’t doing well.
Without a good team that has a befitting stature of human capital, a company can never thrive well. A business is as good as the human capital of its team members.
This being a known fact, for any business to survive, more resources should be channeled towards building the human capital of the team members. People is arguably the most important element of the 3 P’s.
Business ideas, organizations, marketing strategies, customer services, processes, products and services are all dependent on the People.
In 2015, a total of $70.6 billion was spent by U.S. companies for the training of their employees. This is more than the combined annual revenue of most countries. But it gives an idea of the importance of investing in human capital.
When a team is comprised of average People with low technical know how’s, the result of such a team will always shuffle below the average line.
To get the best result, invest in your team. The importance of trainings can thus never be overemphasized. Every good business should be ready to pump in cash towards hiring the best hands or training the average team unto becoming world class assets.
Individuals can’t be paid beyond the worth of their human capital. Self development is the key to surviving in the competitive world of today.
The greatest assets to invest in are thus not SpaceX, Facebook, Apple or Microsoft, rather, they are humans.
Build a formidable team of specialised and skillful thinkers & researchers and a good Product will emerge, build a team of core strategists, and your business Process will be enviable. It all lies on the People.
